Fulham head coach Marco Silva has confirmed that the club remain in discussions with Kenny Tete and his representatives regarding his future at Craven Cottage and have offered the Dutch international a new contract.

Reports this week have linked the right back, who has lost his place in Silva’s starting line-up to Timothy Castagne, with possible moves to Besiktas and Ajax – even though Fulham have the ability to trigger a year’s extension on his current contract, which expires in June. Silva emphasised that the former Lyon full-back has not been omitted from the matchday squad due to his failure to sign a new deal – saying:

“First, about Kenny, it’s important to talk about Castagne. Everything in terms of injuries with Kenny is not to do with his contract situation. He’s an important player. It’s been a long time he has not been available to play this season. It’s for different reasons: not to do with his contract. It’s important to be clear about this.

We are having conversations with him and his agent. But if you ask if we offered a contract, then yes, we did offer a contract. A long time ago. We have the option if we want to trigger it – that’s a decision we will take soon.”

The Athletic are reporting that Fulham, who would like to keep Tete on their books beyond this summer, are scouting potential replacements as a contingency.
