West Ham United and Fulham, who meet this afternoon at the London Stadium, are keen on signing Panathinaikos centre forward Fotis Ioannidis, according to the Sun’s Alan Nixon.

The 24 year-old Greek international has scored 21 goals in 39 games for Panathinaikos this term, including scoring five times in six Europa League group stage games, and has attracted the attention of scouts from across the continent. The Athens-born striker had been courted by Celtic before signing a new contract last year and Lazio are the latest Serie A side to be linked.

Ioannidis, who has scored 38 goals in 138 appearances since signing for the Greens from second-tier side Levadiakos in August 2020, has become a regular in Greece’s national side, scoring twice in their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign, which ended in a penalty shoot-out defeat by Georgia in the play-off final.

The Sun suggests that Panathinaikos want £15m for Ioannidis, who is one of a number of strikers Fulham are scouting before making a decision on new acquisitions in the summer. They won’t need reminding of that the last time they splashed the cash on a free-scoring Greek striker it didn’t work out well. Kostas Mitroglou cost £12m from Olympiacos, but made only three appearances without finding the net.
