Marco Silva has confirmed that Fulham are likely to have a quiet January transfer window.
The Portuguese head coach told his pre-match press conference ahead of the League Cup semi-final first leg at Liverpool:
“I am really happy with the squad – I can’t hide from you that I am happy. We made changes last summer, we lost a player that was really important for us. In that moment, as you know, we had four strikers. We had Mitro, Raul – Raul was already in our football club, because when we decided to sign Raul it was not in our mind to lose any strikers. When we lost Mitro, it wasn’t possible to sign any more strikers.
Let’s see what happens in the next few days. I said that it was going to be quiet. When I said that, it was the feedback that I got in terms of the financial point of view. That is something that just makes sense. For me, it is clear that for us to sign someone, it has to be someone who adds something to our squad – to add quality, to add something or to be at one level that can make an impact. Sometimes you can do this because you have money to do that. When I said it would be quiet, it is because I got feedback that it wouldn’t be possible from a financial point of view.”
I’ll take quiet if it means all we do is sell Vini, sign a quality replacement, and everyone else stays.
Let Vin and Muniz go keep the rest hopefully find a striker with cash saved on them two bring Stansfield back. If we lose some in summer replace then but keep know I’m happy players doing us proud
FINANCIAL???? where is the Mitro money?
We make less from matchday receipts than most clubs because of the size of Craven Cottage and limited interest abroad. https://sportsjournal.io/premier-league-football-clubs-matchday-data/
A portion of the Mitro money probably went towards ongoing operations and player salaries. I wouldn’t mind if we used some of the rest to keep some of the players whose contracts are expiring in the summer (Willian, Bobby, Tete).
Unfortunately seems to be the key word. Silva recently signed a new contract suggesting he and the management AKA the Khans had similar ambitions for the club. We have banked £50m+ from Mitro yet four months later have no clear idea who will replace him. With respect to our rejuvenated Mexican he is 32 and can only be considered short term, we have an uncomfortable percentage of over 28 y o, what do we plan over the next 2-3 windows to not only improve the squad in key areas but reduce the need to replace an ageing team
Can people relax, as we have heard from countless other clubs January is a window that typically has very little value to be found. As we all agree, get rid of the players who are clearly not good enough… What do you think other clubs are doing?! If Silva is happy then I trust him, and we’ll see who we can bring in during the summer. Also, I cannot see the point of selling 2 strikers, signing another and then bringing Jay back, presumably as a 3rd choice striker to sit on the bench. Let him get minutes somewhere this season. If you’re bringing him back to be second choice then just keep one or vini or muniz as 3rd, but still just let the boy get some minutes somewhere else this season
I think the Everton points deduction has spooked clubs. We read rumours of other clubs possibly being in trouble and we and others may be taking a much more conservative line not wanting to get close to an FFP breach. I still think we’ll do some business but when Arsenal seemingly can’t afford a striker it’s clear that FFP is now doing more than just deter the smaller fish. Logically this ought to lead to fees and wages coming down but there’ll be massive resistance to that.
I don’t understand… I thought charging people through the nose for match tickets was meant to boost our transfer funds? Can’t believe it.
As always mixed messages and awful mismanagement.
Sell Mitro at the last minute with no replacement. The farce of Paulinho’s almost sale stopped at the last minute BECAUSE they had no replacement. Unbelievable.
I wonder what was promised to Marco to get him to agree to extend his contract. We shall never know I guess.
I imagine the proceeds of the sale of Mitro are needed to fill a hole in their business plan caused by the delays in completing the new stand and the resulting lack of income from it that had been costed in.
We used to get updates on the build every month or two. Now we get dead silence. Is the design too ambitious or is there a fault with it, or is it a problem with the contractors, or availability of materials. Who knows, I doubt if we humble supporters ever will.

Same old same old it seems the Khan’s have gone back on their promise to Marco that he would be able to bring in players in January why are we not surprised, we have an aging squad and we need some young people to come in.
Mind games if you hqd to ask me. We will add a forward and a winger this month. I hope…
I concur with @David, please everyone stop whingeing, its awful to see almost every time I read comments under the (well written and reported) stories. Complaining doesn’t help anything, trust in the process and in Marco, he looks more relaxed and confident now then he did a the beginning of the season which gives me confidence… and @Simon might have something there too…
Let’s all get behind Marco and the boys, no matter.
I think it’s ok to question why all of a sudden net financial investment in the team stopped in the summer and is apparently now not even possible due to FFP. I’m interested in what’s happening there as net investment with our aging squad is imperative. So if FFP is the reason what will change by summer? That’s is a huge change in messaging for sure.
But don’t worry, there is no need to question whether people on this forum need rallying to get behind Marco and the team.
Silva’s comments on a quiet transfer window may be a way of deflecting interest that we have from other clubs.
I would have thought that if we don’t buy anyone we should at least bring Stansfield back.Muniz and Vinicius have proved to be not for purpose.
Looks like Fabio’s career has is about to take a monumental step?
