Fulham are reportedly in advanced discussions with Everton over a possible deal for Alex Iwobi, according to various reports this morning.
The Nigerian international, an ever-present in the Toffees’ successful battle against the drop which went to the final day last term, was signed by Marco Silva when the Fulham head coach was in charge at Goodison Park. The former Arsenal trainee is in the final year of his contract and could be available as Sean Dyche desperately seeks funds to reshape his first-team squad before the transfer deadline.
Iwobi has rejected offers of a new contract with Everton and is keen to be reunited with Silva at Craven Cottage. The talks between the two clubs are focused on agreeing a fee, with the potential for appearance and team-related add-ons, with the Londoners confident of matching the versatile 27 year-old’s wage demands.
Unfortunately Iwobi is a classic “no end product” player. Just 17 goals and 27 assists in 223 league appearances. That’s involvement in a goal once every 5 games. He works hard, runs a lot, not bad defensively either, but we need productive wingers. He ain’t that.
This is now looking like a very very bad window. If my memory serves we still need a left back cover, a possible Tosin replacement, one or is it two additional wingers (iwobi is not a winger based on what I’ve seen of Everton games), and a replacement for Mitrovic
But worse is to come if Palhinha goes too.
Isn’t it time Khan senior recognised his son needs a proper Director of Football. Junior may eventually learn the role but it currently looks like an expensive risk leaving him in the DoF role
