Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli have offered Marco Silva a massive £40m to leave Fulham and become their new manager.
Plenty of Saudi Pro League sides have poached big name players but Silva, who turned down a lucrative approach from Al-Hilal earlier this summer, would be the first English top flight manager to decamp to Kingdom. Sky Sports News are reporting that Silva’s representatives are meeting with Saudi officials in London whilst the Portuguese head coach has flown out to the United States as the Whites prepare to take part in the Premier League Summer Series.
Silva, who has a year left on his contract at Craven Cottage, has steadfastly refused to commit his long-term future to London’s oldest professional club as he wants to see whether the Whites match his ambitions this summer. The former Hull City, Watford and Everton manager guided Fulham back to the Premier League at the first attempt after succeeding Scott Parker in SW6 two summers ago and steered the Cottagers to tenth in the top flight last term.
Uncertainty also surrounds the future of Serbian striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, who is upset at Fulham’s £52m valuation that the number nine fears could price him out of a big-money move to join Al-Hilal.
Of Fulham do not buy enough quality players very soon I can see Marco going to Saudi and I would not blame him.
Tony Khan should have already signed players by now.
I’d blame anyone who took the Saudi’s blood money. Has nobody got any principles that aren’t for sale?
Mitro is not the only one who would go from hero to zero in my estimation.
Greedy bastards and I blame the players agents who don’t give a shit about the players all they are interested in is how much money they can make out of it, the FA need to do something about this before the English football league is lost to Saudi Arabia and their money to tempt players to join their Mickey Mouse league. It’s looking like Silva is up to his old tricks of jumping ship again.
Don’t leave supporters in the dark, we need to hear positive news, that quality signings on their way. Not to have signed anybody, with season starting in 2 weeks, is a disaster. I’m not counting resigned!!
Mitro is on 80,000 a week and still has 3 years left on his contract and if he thinks he can go on strike to get a move don’t pay him a penny, and let him rot in the reserves.
I totally agree with Nick, are contracts worth nothing anymore. And speaking of which, neither Silva nor Mitrovic are exactly on peanut money either, both are millionaires. I for one woyld never consider leaving the best league in the world just for money.
It will be interesting to see if Silva does jump ship. If we had signed a couple of quality players by now I think he would have had second thoughts. Nothing we can do about Mitro and his greed but lets hold out for 50 million. Palhinha would be a terrific loss he is the best midfield player of his type in my time supporting the club, dating back to the early sixties, since Alan Mullery at his prime
It’s okay guys. Nothing to worry about.
Let’s focus on snack wars – USA v UK.
Those PR guys at the club sure know how to grab our attention.
Let Mitro rot in the reserves for 3 years and there’s f..all he can do about it. A contract is a contract. Enough said. Move on……
This has all been so predictable. Marco told the management to make signings if they wanted him to sign a new contract and they haven’t. Yes, tying down Willian has saved us ten mill (and we nearly ‘dropped that ball!!’…) but Man City and The Arse have been very busy (as have Walham Green). Tony Khan seems to delight in last day signings, but by then we will be four games into the season and probably having to fight our way out of the relegation zone. Whatever we think of players and managers going to the land of sand and money we have to accept that it is a reality (no matter that it leaves a nasty taste). I see that the club have already lined up a new manager, so they knew this was coming… It is both annoying and upsetting, but that is the world we live in. Whether we are playing Arsenal or Accrington Stanley, most of us will still be in The Hammy End shouting our lungs out. COYW!!!
does Financial Fair Play not come in to this?
I had hoped that Marco Silva would honour his contract and I fully understood him not signing a new one until he saw what players were incoming in transfer window, none so far. The 6million buy out clause gives him a way out if money is his priority but Saudi Arabia would not be the choice for most top class managers. It is a question if the money is too good to resist. Other countries can match the money Saudi Arabia are throwing around.he is meant to be meeting Mr Khan senior to discuss so hopefully we will know one way or the other within the next week. If he goes it will a terrible loss and almost impossible to replace
