Fulham have revived their interest in Dutch winger Justin Kluivert, who was denied a loan move to Craven Cottage last summer after being denied a work permit.

The Whites were all set to sign the former Ajax wide man after Manor Solomon picked up a serious injury shortly after his Fulham debut but the move was scuppered by the Government’s points-based work permit system after Kluivert had made just two appearances for Roma in 2020/21. Both clubs raged at the ruling and Italian journalist Gianluca di Marzio says that the Cottagers are back in for the 24 year-old, who scored eight goals and made two more in 29 games on loan at Valenica last summer.

Kluivert’s appearances at the Mestalla will ensure a work permit won’t be a problem this time around – but Fulham will still have to beat off competition from Bournemouth, who appeared favourites to clinch a deal after opening talks with Roma officials earlier this week. But di Marzio claims that Fulham are now frontrunners, owing to their persistent interest in the winger, who has also enjoyed spells on loan at Red Bull Leipzig and Nice in recent seasons.

Fulham representatives met with Roma general manager Tiago Pinto, who is in London this week trying to sign West Ham striker Gianluca Scamacca. The Portuguese is also trying to move on a number of players who are considered surplus to requirements by Jose Mourinho, including Kluivert.
