Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno has been rewarded for his outstanding Premier League form with a recall to the Germany squad for their forthcoming friendlies against Peru and Belgium.

The 31 year-old, a bargain £3m signing from Arsenal last summer, has kept seven clean sheets in 25 appearances as Fulham have confounded the pre-season predictions of a struggle to sit in ninth place after 27 games. Leno, who has won nine caps at senior level for the country, has been recalled by German head coach Hansi Flick having last featured in a World Cup qualifying win over Liechtenstein in February 2021.

Germany, who will host the European Championships in 2024, will look to move on from a second successive group stage World Cup exit when they face Peru in Mainz on Saturday March 25 and Belgium in Cologne the following Tuesday.
