Fulham have confirmed that their Icelandic winger Jon Dagur Thorsteinsson will leave the club next week and sign for Aarhus Gymnastikforening.

The 20 year-old, who joined Fulham’s academy after a successful trial, was quickly promoted from the Under 18s into the Under-23 set up and made an impression with a number of spectacular strikes, including against Norwich in the Premier League Cup and at Charlton Athletic in the Checkatrade Trophy.

His progression at Motspur Park was marked by international honours and a call-up to the Icelandic senior squad. He has made three senior appearances for his country, scoring his first international goal during Iceland’s 2-2 with Sweden in Doha in January. Thorsteinsson, who spent last season on loan in Denmark with Vendsyssel FF, has now opted to leave Craven Cottage in order to gain regular first-team football.
