Iranian international Ashkan Dejagah joined Fulham from Wolfsburg at the end of August 2012. He became only the third Iranian to play Premier League football after making his debut as a substitute against Aston Villa in October 2012. He scored his first goal against Tottenham in December 2013 – during Rene Meulensteen’s first match in charge. Dejagah became a superb sub during Felix Magath’s tenure in charge, memorably scoring winners against Newcastle and Everton. He was voted the club’s player of the year in 2013/2014, but left the club after Fulham were relegated from the top flight.

He spent two years in Qatar with Al-Arabi, had a short stint back at Wolfsburg and was briefly at Nottingham Forest in 2018 before hanging up his boots in 2023 following spells with Al Shahania and Foolad. Dejagah, who won the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg in 2009, made 59 appearances for Iran – including playing in all three group games during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil – scoring eleven goals.
