Fulham have confirmed the signing of Iranian international Ashkan Dejagah from German outfit Wolfsburg for a fee believed to be in the region of £2m.
The 26 year-old winger played against the Whites twice for Wolfsburg during Fulham’s run to the Europa League final in 2010 and operated in front of Sascha Riether during his time with Die Wölfe. He is only the third Iranian after Karim Bagheri, who played for Charlton in 2001, and the former Fulham midfielder Andranik Teymourian to sign for a Premier League club.
Dejagah, who was part of the Wolfsburg side that won the Bundesliga in 2008-09, won the European under-21 championships with Germany but, following FIFA rule changes in 2009, accepted a senior call-up to the Iranian side in 2012. He has won three international caps for his homeland, scoring two goals.
After signing a three-year contract at Craven Cottage, Dejagah told Fulham’s official website:
I’m very happy to be signing for Fulham and to come and play in the Premier League. I know Sascha [Riether] well and he told me very good things about the Club and, after I had spoken to the Manager and heard about the project here, I was convinced. So I am happy to be here and will give my best for the Club and our fans.
