ulham’s new midfielder William Kvist is confident the Cottagers will beat the drop despite slipping to the bottom of the Premier League table.
The Denmark international made his debut in Saturday’s 3-0 home defeat to Southampton after signing on loan from Stuttgart on Thursday.
The result, combined with Cardiff’s win over Norwich, left Fulham in 20th place but Kvist believes the squad at Craven Cottage is strong enough to survive in the top flight.
He said “I thought we played well in the first half on Saturday and had some good chances.
“But when you’re down at the bottom it’s often the story that you don’t get that bit of luck you need. If we’d gone 1-0 up I’m confident we would have won the game.
“We’d been defending well but when Southampton went in front it was difficult for us to get back in the game. It’s disappointing but we have 14 games left and I’m still quite sure that this is a very good team and over the coming weeks we’ll train together and try and pick up a lot of points.
“It’s very close down there but we just have to focus on ourselves, that’s the most important thing. If we can score some goals and defend well, no matter who we’re playing, then we’ll get points.”
Next up for Fulham in the Premier League is an away game against Manchester United on Sunday followed by the visit of Liverpool to west London next Wednesday.
Kvist added: “They don’t get much harder but it’s a hard league. We’re looking forward to the two games and we’ll do everything, I repeat, everything, we can to get some points from the matches.”
