Fulham defender Sascha Riether reckons Mr Motivator Rene Meulensteen has sorted out Fulham’s heads.

Sunday’s home victory over Aston Villa ended a run of defeats which cost Martin Jol his job.

After losing his first game at home to Tottenham, the Cottagers’ new Dutch boss got his message across to beat the Brummies.

Riether revealed: “When he speaks to the team it’s very motivating and you can see on the pitch everyone is fighting for the other and that’s important.

“Football is in the head, the head is the most important thing and our head was very good on Wednesday [in a narrow 2-1 loss to Spurs] and against Villa, and I hope we can go on like that.

“He changed different things, but I think it’s important that we as players we react on the pitch and we know we have got fantastic players but we have to show it on the pitch.

“If you are not a team you will win nothing and at the moment we are a team and that is why we got three points.”

And the German said the contribution of Dimitar Berbatov against Villa was crucial.

“He’s our best player, there is no doubt,” Riether added. “So we need him to come out of this situation and the last games he was fantastic.

“He did some important runs in defence as well, he was working very hard and tried his best to help the team and that’s important for us.”
