That’s what the Mirror reckon. There would be far worse short-term replacements for Bobby Zamora out there. I’m still not convinced Beattie’s a Hodgson-type player, though.
Speaking of Bobby, the same article suggests he might make a return to the squad on Saturday. That seems a little too early for me, but I won’t be complaining. They also rehash yesterday’s story about West Ham’s interest in Zamora, but would Zola blow his entire transfer budget on one forward? I doubt it.
Funny this as I said to my brothre the other day that it would be good business for Fulham to sign him. I’m an admirer of Beattie and think that he could do well. Did he play along side Johnson at Everton by any chance?
Yeah, although only for one season. Beattie scored twice that year was largely disappointing and was sold at the start of the next season to Sheffield United. AJ scored twelve goals and won England caps in his first season at Everton.
From OptaJoe:
James Beattie scored only 2 goals (both pens) in 1457 mins of Premier League action in 2006/07, the season when both [he and AJ] were at Everton.
Not great.
