Joleon Lescott has admitted that he was at fault for Fulham’s equaliser as Manchester City let a two-goal lead slip at Eastlands yesterday.
The England defender, who has been the subject of heavy criticism for his below-par performances since his £24m move from Everton earlier in the season, was outjumped by Clint Dempsey as the American international headed Jonathan Greening’s free-kick past Shay Given. The 27-year-old told City’s website that he would take the blame.
It was probably my fault that Dempsey got a header and that is something I will try to address.
We are all winners and we all want to do well. There are no excuses. Being two goals up we should be able to see the game out.
The best way to get something like what happened on Sunday out of the system is to get a win under the belt and we have the chance to do just that on Wednesday in the cup against Scunthorpe.
After that performance on Sunday we just want to get out there as soon as possible and prove that wasn’t the real City. We want to win that one and then go into the Birmingham game next Sunday with confidence.
I thought Lescott was good at Everton, not spectacular but good. He was often in the headlines due to his goal scoring.
On Sunday I though he stood out, bur not in a positive at all. He looked slow (against BZ) and off the pace. £24m not worth £4m at that rate. Give me Brede, Aaron, Chris or Chris any day.
I don’t get to watch him that much, but Lescott was more responsible for the 2nd city goal than meets the eye because he drove Hangers from about 2 meters from the goal line into the goal, thus clearing him out of his defensive position and out of the way for him to tap in that goal after Adebayor sent it his way. It is no wonder he is a set piece master. Watch the goal again and watch the job he did on Hangers.
Presumably you mean the first City goal, Jack – the one that Lescott scored.
Have to fully agree with Alan’s sentiments as well. I thought Hughes and Hangeland were excellent once again.
It was the first goal I was thinking of. Hangers was manhandled, so with the exception of allowing Lescott to get that goal, which I lay squarely on Hangers, he did have a good game.
