I personally think the media have rather overblown Zoltan Gera’s concerns that Fulham’s Europa League participation could adversely impact on our league campaign.

While Gera does say juggling our resources has proved difficult, he devotes most of the interview to discussing how well we played against Arsenal. As he says, if we can maintain Saturday’s level of performance, we should be picking up a few more points.

If we keep playing like this and putting in this sort of performance then we will not have anything to worry about. We were just unlucky. Their keeper made some great saves. It was a good derby.

Arguably the biggest positive to take from Saturday’s defeat was Gera himself. Perhaps the goal at Manchester City in the week has rejuvenated him. He was dangerous going forward and eager in defence – making one absolutely vital tackle – and might just have played himself into form at just the right time, given Damien Duff’s calf injury.
