Is Steven Gerrard getting his excuses in early?
Maybe because they don’t have as many internationals as us, they might be fresher. We know they will be up for it – they are chasing a European place, so there is something riding on this game for them.
Whilst Stevie might be forgiven for having other things on his mind at the moment, we’ve had our fair share of key players on international duty this week. The likes of Schwarzer, Pantsil, Hughes, Kallio, Hangeland, Baird, Davies, Dempsey and Gera have all been globetrotting – and we don’t have 62 members of our squad to choose from.
You’re obviously an idiot if you think we have 62 first team members to choose from.
I think it’s a reasonable point about the massive squads the big clubs have. Isn’t this why you have so many players to cover for the international fatigue or indulge Rafa’s squad rotation system?
Cally is right. According to physioroom.com Liverpool has two players out with injuries, so they really only have a squad of 60 to choose from.
Getting your excuses in early?
Small club syndrome.
Wow. Dan’s an idiot and we’re a small club. Got any more pearls of wisdom for us Cally? How about how to sort out the global financial crisis?
No, that should do it.
haha!
And to think, Cally “will never walk alone”. There are many more out there…way too many…

If you can’t take it don’t give it.
Typical small club chip on your shoulders.
Who said anything about not being able to take it? I stand by my comments – Gerrard’s obviously not done his research about the number of internationals we’ve had on duty this week.
Small club? Compared to Liverpool, maybe. But this small club’s having a fine season. I’m proud to support my local team and the fact that we’re competing against the ‘big four’ this season shows that we’ve improved a lot over the last year and a bit.
Will you be at the Cottage tomorrow Cally?
1-0 Fulham
Imagine how it will feel to lose to such a small club. Probably way worse than drawing with a small club, like you did at Anfield earlier this season.
Yes. Lock up your hubcaps, etc.
Well I hope you enjoy your day (not too much obviously). Looks like the title race should go right down to the wire.
It would be just like us to slip up tomorrow, especially given your confidence at home and the CL on Wednesday.
Yeah, but surely Benitez won’t mess around with the side tomorrow. We’ve done well at home generally this season but, before the surprise win against United, we’d lost two very winnable home games on the bounce. I’m not all that confident to be honest.
He’ll make changes, especially after all the internationals, it’s just his nature and philosophy. Although Gerrard and Torres should play.
We’re flying at the moment, which is what worries me. These are the games we’d slip up in the past and it will be another big test of our title credentials – not only for this season but the next.
I’m hoping your lads will be in relaxed mode after securing PL status, but Hodgson is too professional to let that happen, and it will be a battle to get the points – like it usually is at your place.
What a result against the mancs, by the way. I bet you didn’t see that coming.
You see to me that doesn’t really make sense but you can’t argue with a guy who has won the Champions’ League and turned Liverpool into a real force.
I’m hoping that being more relaxed will allow us to play with a bit more freedom and express ourselves but against the kind of pace that Liverpool have and the way you can move the ball so quickly it could well be dangerous to open the game up too much.
Beating the Mancs was indeed a real surprise. I’m normally pretty optimistic – I had a feeling we’d get something against Chelsea, for example – but I treated that game just like the Cup tie against them. I turned up but left my hope at home. Fortunately, the boys turned in a hell of a performance.
I’d much rather play relaxed than uptight and out of control. Thats what I like about our club this season, we rarely get rattled. You need to be relaxed in order to keep your focus.
Sadly, Jason, I can think of a few ocassions when we’ve been rattled this season. We looked lethargic against West Ham and didn’t really respond once they went in front. Also, the game against Manchester United in the cup – we froze really badly once they had scored.
Hopefully, it doesn’t happen tomorrow. You’d be a fool not to recognise the improvement that Hodgson’s made to the side he took over (that was nailed on for Championship football) but I’d like to think that our ambitions weren’t limited to finish clear of the relegation scrap every season.
In a similar way to Liverpool, I think this game will tell us a lot about our approach to the remainder of this season and the next as well.
Right, but we “froze” way more often last season than this season.
