Schwarzer: You could make a cash for the big Aussie being at fault for both the goals today. He spilled the ball into the path of Lampard after colliding with Hughes and almost wrongfooted himself for the free-kick before diving over it. He made a few good saves during the course of game, though, to redeem himself. 6

Pantsil: Could have made himself a real hero with that shot from distance that whistled just wide. Wholehearted performance, get forward well and was always a good outlet for possession. 7

Hangeland: I worried that he might have been rushed back too quickly for this game but he produced another solid performance. Coped admirably with Drogba and Anelka, heading balls away, making one goal-saving tackle and several important interceptions. 7

Hughes: He’s set himself very high standards this season so it is probably harsh to judge him by that. He perhaps should have got a shout from Schwarzer or just cleared the ball and asked questions later. 6

Murphy: Had a decent game in the heart of the midfield. Roy made a good point in his post-match interview about us being outnumbered in the heart of the midfield and Murphy playing two games in two days. Was strong in the tackle and passed the ball well – will have to see whether he was really impeded in the build-up to the Lampard equaliser. 7

Etuhu: Was solid enough at the base of the midfield against Chelsea’s creative players. Did well to break up the play on ocassions but looked a little lost on the ball. It was perhaps inevitable that we’d miss Bullard in midfield today. 7

Dempsey: The undoubted star of the show today. He was so nimble to score the first goal and rose majestically to head home that late equaliser. His celebrations showed just how much he loves the club and his performance has confirmed that he belongs at this level. Keep it up Clint! 8

Davies: Disappointing today I felt – although others disagree. He did whip in two great set-pieces which led to our goals, but he looked a little nervy for me out there. Got lambasted by a bloke behind me when he used his shoulder to keep the ball in when he perhaps should have settled for a throw. 5

Johnson: Worked hard but didn’t really get a sniff of goal. Found it tough to get behind the Chelsea defence and instead had to do much of his work with his back to goal and in the channels. 6

Zamora: Got nothing from the referee again. Tried his heart out but it was always likely that he would struggle against a quality defence. Perhaps was lucky to stay on as long as he did. 6

Subs:

Nevland: Nice that he got a few more minutes today. He made a difference once he got on the ball, making some nice passes and could have had a penalty in injury time. 7

Andreasen: Decent little cameo from Leon. Was hungry in the tackle, looked good on the ball and his endeavour made me wish that he stays around past January. 6

Baird: Didn’t really enough time to make an impact but helped us to hang onto a point. 6
