Fulham midfielder Simon Davies has been named as the Wales Footballer of the Year award winner.

The 28-year-old received the award at the FA of Wales’ awards dinner at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

The Haverfordwest-born player won his 50th cap for his country during the year, and also stepped in as captain on several occasions in the absence of Craig Bellamy – last year’s winner of the award.

Davies, who has won 53 caps for his country and scored six goals, was also a pivotal figure as Fulham roared back from the brink of relegation to sensationally stay up under Roy Hodgson last season.
