Roy Hodgson is considering making a bid for Wolfsburg defender Alexander Madlung as he continues his summer overhaul of the Fulham squad.

The 6’4” centre half has emerged as a potential alternative to Josip Simunic, who Hertha Berlin are unwilling to sell and Fulham are prepared to test Felix Magath’s resolve to keep hold of the 26 year-old with an offer of around £2m. Madlung, who has won two German senior international caps, is apparently very interested in playing in the Premier League and has previously been linked with Tottenham.
