Fulham will mount an audacious bid to sign Barcelona’s World Cup winner Lilian Thuram, according to a report in The Sun this morning.

Craven Cottage boss Chris Coleman spoke to Thuram when he left scandal-hit Juventus last year and was confident of signing the centre-back until Barca swooped. But the French defender 35, is likely to leave the Nou Camp this summer and is keen on moving to the Premiership.

Thuram, a World Cup winner in 1998, is available on a free but his £45,000-a-week wages would make him Fulham’s highest-paid player.
