Irish winger Jimmy Conway held a special place in the heart of the Fulham faithful ever since he scored a brilliant goal on his Fulham debut against Wolves in the League Cup. He played at half back and right back early on for the Whites, being part of two relegated sides, but when Bill Dodgin put him on the right wing in 1969 he scored 23 goals as he terrorised Third Division defences. Conway scored ten more as Fulham went on the following year, before switching into central midfield as injuries affected his ability to influence proceedings on the wing. A gloriously gifted footballer, Conway featured in the FA Cup final for Fulham before moving to Manchester City for £30,000 in August 1976. He finished his career with the Portland Timbers in the NASL and lived in Oregon until his death in 2020 after a brave battle with dementia.
