Having guested for Fulham during the war, Ernie Shepherd made 76 appearances for the Whites in twelve years at Craven Cottage, scoring thirteen goals, as a skilful outside left. He went on to manage Southend United after his playing career, which also saw him make more than 200 league appearances for Queens Park Rangers.
