Leeds United are close to admitting defeat in their bid to sign Fulham goalkeeper David Stockdale on loan.

Fulham’s insistence on inserting a 24-hour recall clause into the season-long loan deal was already a sticking point but the Premier League’s club demand for a loan fee seems to have scuppered any possibility of the 25 year-old moving to his hometown club. The Yorkshire Evening Post are linking Leeds, who are still searching for a replacement for the departed Kasper Schmeichel, with a move for Newcastle keeper Fraser Forster.

Ipswich are also in the race to loan Stockdale, as Lork noted on Thursday.
