Swansea reject latest Grimes bid

Swansea City have turned down Fulham’s latest offer for Matt Grimes, according to the Athletic.

The Whites have now had three bids rejected for the 26 year-old midfielder, who has a year left on his current contract at the Liberty Stadium. Swansea are believed to be waiting for an offer that matches their £4m valuation of the player, who has been heavily linked with a move to Craven Cottage all summer.

Whilst Marco Silva is keen to add depth in midfield to his squad before tonight’s transfer deadline – especially with Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa on the verge of a loan move to Napoli – it remains to be seen whether Fulham will return with a fourth offer.

Fulham make third Grimes bid

Fulham have launched a third bid for Swansea City skipper Matt Grimes as they try to conclude a deal before tonight’s transfer deadline, according to reports this afternoon.

The 26 year-old midfielder has been heavily linked with a Craven Cottage move all summer and reportedly is not willing to sign a new contract at the Liberty Stadium. He has a year to run on his current deal – but Swansea have rejected two previous Fulham offers and are believed to be holding out for an excess of £4m for the former England under-21 international.

Grimes, who has made 163 appearances for the Welsh side since joining Swansea six years ago, is widely regarded as one of the most consistent performers in the Championship. He was a key part of the Swansea side that reached the play-offs in successive seasons under former boss Steve Cooper, with the Swans losing in last season’s final to Brentford. Grimes has put the speculation surrounding his future to one side to start all of Swansea’s games so far this season.

Marco Silva is known to be looking for further additions in midfield, with Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa poised to seal a loan move to Napoli this afternoon.

Fulham see Grimes bid rejected

Swansea City have turned down a £2.5m bid from Fulham for their captain Matt Grimes, according to the Athletic’s Peter Rutzler.

The Whites have tracked the 26 year-old midfielder for much of the summer and have already had one bid for Grimes rejected. The former Exeter City midfielder has a year to run on his current deal at the Liberty Stadium and he is understood to be unlikely to sign a new contract with his current employers.

Marco Silva is reportedly keen to make further additions to his squad before the close of the summer transfer window on Tuesday – but is unclear whether the Championship leaders will return with a third offer.

Fulham ‘to complete Grimes deal next week’

Fulham are confident of completing their capture of Swansea skipper Matt Grimes next week, according to the Daily Mail.

The Whites are in pole position to land the 26 year-old midfielder, who has entered the final year of his current contract at the Liberty Stadium. The fee is believed to be in the region of £4m. But Grimes, who has made 157 appearances in six years in south Wales, had to isolate after a coronavirus outbreak in the Swansea camp which delayed a medical that had been pencilled in for last week.

Fulham believe they can hold off reported interest from Burnley and Watford in the former Exeter City midfielder and make Grimes Marco Silva’s third summer signing in the coming days. Silva’s side started with academy graduates Tyrese Francois and Fabio Carvalho in midfield this afternoon as they beat League One Charlton Athletic in their final pre-season friendly at Craven Cottage.

Grimes set for Fulham medical

Marco Silva’s reshaping of Fulham’s squad will continue next week as Swansea skipper Matt Grimes heads to London for a medical ahead of a proposed move to Craven Cottage.

The decision of Swansea’s board to cash in Grimes as the influential midfielder entered the final year of his contract at the Liberty Stadium is thought to be one of the reasons for manager Steve Cooper’s departure last week. The Daily Mail tonight reports that the Welsh side have agreed a fee – believed to be in the region of £4m – with Fulham for the classy midfielder.

Grimes has attracted interest from the likes of Newcastle United, Southampton and Bournemouth after becoming one of the Championship’s most consistent performers. It appears as though Fulham have won the race for his signature with a medical scheduled for next week. The former England under-21 international midfielder, who came through the Exeter City academy, has scored eight goals in 157 appearances during his six years in south Wales.
