Willian is set to rejoin Fulham on a free transfer tomorrow morning – just five and a half months after leaving Craven Cottage.
The 36 year-old Brazilian, outstanding in two seasons playing on the white side of SW6, has been drafted in as a replacement for the injured Harry Wilson. The former Chelsea and Arsenal winger was released by Greek outift Olympiacos in December and is excited to answer Marco Silva’s call for a second time.
Why would they want to bring him back ?? I do not understand this one !!! The lad looked uninterested towards the end last yr and this contract cut short in Greece!!! To sign him to make Silva happy?
Where’s the sense in this???
We need a right back, and a right winger – not another left winger!
He has been available since mid-December, the same time that Reiss Nelson picked up a long term injury.
It would have made sense, then, to bring him in on a short term deal, not six weeks later.
We have been disjointed and unbalanced ever since Nelson was injured and it has been reflected in our home performances.
Surely, it would have made complete sense to have brought Willian in at any time in the last six weeks, instead of watching us struggle at home?
Now, according to Silva, Nelson is ready to make a comeback and should feature against Wigan. So this move is nuts!
They can’t both play.
Meanwhile, we still don’t have a right back to cover for Kenny Tete -even though he was injured around the same time as Nelson.
Beggars belief!
Silky feet, sublime technique. Gave us two great seasons. I hope he still has it in him. His age is surely a concern. At least it didn’t cost us.
A typical Tonkey move. He should join Rada and perform in McBeth. He likes the drama of the eleventh hour on the last night.
We’ve have two major injuries without Nelson who should be available soon. Tonkey’s answer is Willian.
He’ll help us at least until Nelson is back to full fitness, then we’ll have competition in that position, with Iwobi also good down the left. My only concern would be Wiili’s ability to get back and cover for Jedi when he gets caught out of position, but maybe a back five would allow the other four to slide across and cover. Left back still a concern, but just read we’ve called Devan Tanton back from loan as cover. Very promising attacking right back. By the end of the season of Kenny leaves, maybe Devan will be our no. 2 RB, and we could possibly focus on another striker. Whatever.. COYW!
I hope the deal is half the pay that he got last season. Great player but he seems like a mercenary to me. Wanted out a number of times and now hes back because he cant get a game anywhere. He would want to play very very well to impress me.
A disappointing window, No Right back which was a priority. Now where is the back up What happened to the young players from St Johnson and Manchester City we were meant to sign. What is Willian going to add especially with Nelson being fit soon
We have Nelson, Iwobi and Sessegnon (oh yes remember Sess who Silva doesn’t play probably because he wasn’t his choice) all who (can) play left wing. A right back replacement is far more important than a left wing, even if we didn’t have any fit left wingers, you can’t improvise at full backs and central defenders. But don’t blame poor Tony, I don’t suppose he knows what a right back is.
So now we have four left wingers and one right back. Let’s do without a right back and play all four of them at the same time and be really innovative. Yippee!!! Back to the funny farm now…
What the hell is going on here where’s the right back we were promised,Silva kept moaning about Cover at right back so where’s is he remember we got rid of Kevin Mbabu who never really got a look in and Sess is left footed and the right winger we needed we got Will I an why I am so confused as to why we will resign Will I an not even a loan player
There are some zero tolerance types on here – such a shame you aren’t running a football club so you can demonstrate how it’s done.
Meanwhile on planet Earth we’re 9th in the Premier League despite apparently being run by incompetents. Sure we needed a RB and didn’t get one but the sun still rose this morning.
Apparently Willian has been training at Motspur Park for the last 4 weeks. So not a last minute thought by Marco.
Now, who did Khan bring in the summer? Oh yeah, Berge, who’s been brilliant, Anderson, who’s been somewhat indifferent, Nelson, who looked very promising until struck down with injury, ESR, who began very brightly and with whom everyone seemed cock-a-hoop! Sess, who Silva doesn’t seem to trust, and Cuenca, who looks quite promising. But because we haven’t added to the squad, other than Willian, who was World class, and has shown why on more than one occasion and may well again in Wilson’s absence, when Iwobi and/or Traore can occupy the right-wing spot, there’s an outbreak of blubbing and recrimination! Yeah, it’s irritating that no back-up right back came in, bordering on negligence since we’ve known about Tete’s issue for a long time, but for Goodness sake!
Another shit last minute transfer window in which Tonkey had no intention of signing anyone except a free transfer of Willian who thought the grass was greener elsewhere,I hope we are not paying him the same wages as last time. Silva should have pushed harder for a right back and a striker but he seems afraid to upset Tonkey who has no ambition to play in Europe.
I do read a lot of crap from so called Fulham supporters. I have been supporting them since the early sixties and have been through lots of highs and lows including nearly going out of business. Back your team and back the staff and stop slagging people off.
Spot on DC, Spot on…
we do not need Willian. We have known about the Right Back situation since Tete got injured a couple of months ago so no excuses please. this is my only criticism
The issue with finding acceptable cover at RB, you have to find a player of your liking who is willing to NOT come in and start right away, unless the intention was to send Timmy back to the bench. I imagine they’ll invest in that position over the summer if Kenny doesn’t have his 1 year option for next year agreed.
I see we also tried to sign Coufal who is 32 years old from West Ham why are we always signing old players and why doesn’t Silva give our youngsters a chance, there’s no point signing young players if he doesn’t give them a chance.
Yeah why give the youngsters a chance we have got Tanton a RB and Luc Fig Rolls in the Under 21s both look very capable of filling in we have Wigan on Saturday why not give these guys a chance and perhaps a few more no dis respect to Wigan we should have enough to beat them with a few youngsters but the RB spot is a worry if Jedi gets injured Sess comes in
DevanTanton who is a Right Back has been called back from his loan spell. A young player who may be given a chance
Sorry but as much as we loved Willian, it’s not what we need. I’d rather save his high wages and subsidise our ticket prices instead.
Willian has been training with us for a month, so he’s fit. He knows how we play and most of the lads. Marco’s had time to look him over and decided that he’s worth a punt. He knows better than me.
He’ll only be a bit part player, so it’s not like he’s going to be starting every week. It’s low risk and his technical skill with the ball at his feet could be the key to unlocking the teams who sit deep.
RB could be a problem, but what decent player would want to come in and be 2nd choice? We have LDF and Tanton, who play there. Timmy needs a rest, so the Cup game might be the time to give someone a run out there.
Can anybody tell me the last time Luc Figuerolles kicked a ball in a competitive match?
He is never included in the first team squad and, from what I can see, does not figure for the Under 21s either.
So there is zero chance of him being match fit and able to be given an opportunity in a cup game.
He has been shunted to one side -which is typical of what happens to young talent at Fulham Football Club. That’s a fact and there’s no denying it.
Don’t even get me started on the way Jay Stansfield was dicked around for six years. Already on 14 goals for Birmingham this season. Add the one he scored for Fulham against Birmingham and that’s 15.
As for the right back situation, we have known that Kenny Tete was going to be out for a long time for, at least, 6 weeks. Plenty of time to have done the necessary prep work, ready for January 1st. But it didn’t happen and the fact that we were left scrabbling around to sign a 33 year old in the final minutes of the window is further indictment of an awful transfer strategy.
Like most supporters, I was very happy with the summer signings -some of whom have since performed better than others – but that doesn’t mean that I can’t point out the short comings in this latest window. I’m not a Castagne fan, although I accept that he performed to a higher level in the 2nd half at Newcastle but, if he gets injured, then I’d say our inability to act in the last four weeks will definitely come home to roost.
Stansfield -16 goals -after last night!!!
Luc de Figuerolles has been out injured
Calm everbody please
our stance now is if the player is not available then we are not buying a makeshift replacement just because of injuries
our summer transfers were the best i have seen ever
willian is perfect for 6 months just to fill the gaps as im sure we will get more injuries on the wings , also Tanton has been recalled so that the back up right back
smile everyone we are in 9 th place and im sensing another nice fa cup run
We are back to all the moaning. I think Marco Silva is doing a very good job, Do you all want to go back to the yo-yo days, or bring in another Scott Parker and have that brand of football. Back Marco for f–k sake
Well said Andrew and Raymond. Some people don’t know when they are well off. I remember watching the boys in the old 4th Division on a rainy night with a a crowd of less than 2000
Hard to think we are 9th in the Premier League listening to all you lot. Okay so we didn’t get a right back. We have a Belgium international in that position and I’m sure if he’s injured there is someone who can take his place. It’s not the end of the world. I also think that last year Willian brought out the best in Muniz, at least he can cross a ball
£OOKS LIKE A PROBLEM OVER MONEY
