Marco Silva proclaimed this ‘one of the best Boxing Days for the fans in 50 years’ after watching his Fulham side come from behind to win the SW6 derby at Stamford Bridge for the first time since 1979.
Substitutes Harry Wilson and Rodrigo Muniz turned the game in the space of ten minutes as the Whites recorded a famous win over their local rivals.
Silva told the BBC after the final whistle:
“Football is about connections. Connections between fans, players and staff, means something really big. The most important thing is for the fans. It’s not about me at all. Some of the speeches before the game were about the fans. It’s been a long time [not winning at] their neighbours. We deserved it. We controlled more of the game. We didn’t give them chances.
“We created big problems for them. Second half we had more bodies in the box and we created more problems. It will be one of the best Boxing Days for the fans in the last 50 years. In the second half we started to make better decisions. All the good actions of the game give us confidence.”
This guy is going (already) to be very hot property and keeping hold of him by the club is going to need a strategy that values him above the admirers imho
Bloody hell Ken it’s Christmas and we should celebrate a very rare occasion. Marco is and so are the majority of our fans. It’s no point worrying about something that may happen in the future, what will be will be.
Incredible. Enjoy
Why didn’t we play like this against Southampton and we would be even higher up the league, we have to keep playing like this if we want European football and we have to play our hardest even against the bottom teams.
Simply because against Southampton we missed half the first team
Man of the match….Marco. When I saw the team with 5 at the back I thought how negative. I didn’t realize he would use the 5 as a means of catapulting the wing backs forward. Pure Genius!!!
Looks like Plan B might be even better than Plan A! 🙂 Giving Robbo and Castagne licence to get forward was so effective. So proud of what Silva has done. He’s so right that now the club, him, the players and the fans are all connected we can make things happen. The contrast between our club and Chelsea is what stuck out for me. A team of international mercenaries, in a souless bowl, supported by ripped off fans. So proud of our club today
One of the best days ever for me as a lifelong Fulham FC addict. I was expecting us to have a real fight on our hands with so many injuries. Yet, once again, away from home, we showed that, when it comes to transitioning from defence to attack, there are very few teams that can match us. Only our poor final touch or wayward pass in the final third lets us down, time and again.
There were so many heroes today. Bernd Leno was superb, as were Bassey and Diop who looked unbreakable. Bassey’s run in the first half was worthy of Stanley Matthews at his best.
After Lukic was negligent in the lead up to Palmer’s goal, he turned in a powerhouse performance.
If only the same could be said for Pereira, also amiss in allowing Palmer to stroll through. Unfortunately, he was, yet again, abysmal and, to make things worse, we now have rumours of him leaving in the headlines yet again. Enough’s enough, surely?
We just need to ensure that we don’t undo this great, well deserved victory by stuffing up against Bournemouth.
All the players were superb they are a team. Not like Chelsea resorting to cheating all the time like Neto how bad was he trying to take Iwobi out.
Every Fulham supporter was brilliant our noise was immense and we shamed Chelsea support.Even in the tube station afterwards our supporters were fantastic.
But the STAR of the day was MARCO. COYW
can someone please tell me why Neto wasn’t sent off. Anyone?
Shoulder charge ; really…..?
Just bizarre IMVHO.
Up yours Tosin. We don’t need a spolt brat like you.
