The Guardian’s football writers have selected Logan Cooke as Fulham’s brightest young starlet from this season’s set of first year scholars.

Cooke has enjoyed an excellent start to the new season at the heart of the Fulham under 18 defence, with his diligent defending being pivotal to helping Ali Melloul’s side pick up points in the U18 Premier League programme. Cooke, who led the under 15 side to national glory, has only recently stepped up an age group having skippered Fulham’s under 16 side last year.

Jacob Steinberg’s commentary reads as follows:

“Cooke, who hails from Gosport, has made big strides since joining Fulham eight years ago. A left-sided centre-back, he has impressed club staff with his leadership and commanding style of defending. He has captained the under-16s, played for the under-18s and is moving in the right direction. He is settled at Fulham and has also stood out because of his ability on the ball, catching the eye with his ability to switch play with both feet. Cooke will hope to establish himself in a higher age group this season.”
