Marco Silva has scotched rumours that Jay Stansfield will be leaving Fulham this summer.
The England under-21 international has been pursued by Birmingham City, where he spent last season on loan, Stoke City and a number of other Championship clubs during the summer but the Fulham head coach says the young forward will remain part of his squad this season.
Silva told his first press conference of the new season:
“Like when you asked me about the end of last season about Jay, everything what we planned for Jay over the last two seasons has happened. First season in League One for six months. Last season in the Championship, he was probably one of the best players for Birmingham, scoring the goals we expected him to score. There were a lot of approaches for him from Championship clubs but I decided he was going to be part of our squad.
He didn’t play in Portugal because he had a small issue in one training session and we had to protect him a little bit. Last Saturday, we played two games against Hoffenheim: one in the morning and one in the afternoon. He played in the morning and I can say to you he scored as well. He’s going to be a player for Fulham and there’s nothing more to say. We can keep receiving approaches, but our idea is to keep him and we are going to keep him in our squad.
That is a sensible decision and one that pleases me. He cous prove to be a very good player for us. At last we know why he did not feature in Portugal
Great news he’s earned his chance ,it excite me as much as our new signings COYW
I would have been amazed if we had let him go. Time to bring our own players through to the first team.
That’s great News instead of the Elliot,Carvalho, senario at last let’s hope Jay can come good I am sure us fans we give him great support
Great news for Stanno and what many fans have been requesting for some while. Maybe we’ll see Fig Roles helping out at centre-half too this season – another academy player who impressed in 1st team outings recently. COYW!!!
