Bayern Munich and Fulham have reached agreement over a £47.4m fee for Joao Palhinha, according to various reports this afternoon.
The defensive midfielder, currently representing Portugal at the European Championships in Germany, came close to joining the German giants last summer – but the deal collapsed after Fulham could not find a replacement in the closing hours of the transfer window. Bayern renewed their pursuit of the 28 year-old – and, having had three bids rejected, appear to have finally got their man for well below Fulham’s £60m valuation.
Palhinha, who has made 79 appearances in two seasons at Craven Cottage since moving from Sporting Lisbon, is expected to sign a four-year contract with Bayern but his medical will take place after his international commitments have concluded.
We all wanted him to stay but….4 years later at 33 years old he won’t be worth much. That loss in Palhinia’s value could be £30million over next 4 years. That’s nearly £150k per week. Add that to his wages of maybe the same. It basically would cost us £300k per week to keep him for 4 years. He’s got to be sold.
Sad to see him go. Especially on the cheap!! I wish him the best for his future and will remember the way he rolled his sleeves up and got on with his job after last year’s disappointment. Great player with 100% attitude.
At least we have time to find someone close to his level.
Very sad to see him go. And based on all the gossip, which is all that we have to go on, the price seems too low by the odd £10m. Goodness knows what goes on behind the scenes. Oh well, we just have to hope that the club can replace him with a signing as inspired as he was.
Sorry to bow to the inevitable but we will always be a selling club. It was great to have had him for two seasons and he’ll always be fondly remembered as a Fulham legend. Best of luck to him.
As we all know he is going to be a great loss to us. Wish him all the best. Consumate professional. Did we have to agree so low though? Hopefully will use the time well to get suitable replacement. Remember we do have Sasa who has shown he can do that job. Marco is the one to make him more consistent. COYWs
Echo the comments of the other sorry to see the Big Man go consummate professional not another sulking Mitrovic although only two seasons he will always be a Fulham legend
Yes ,sad to see him leave but we have to move on now and get a replacement soon.Too many positions need to be filled!!.
Sorry to see him go but picking up on Nick’s comment, apart from the top 4 or 5 clubs, every team in the Premier League is a selling club. Fulham, along with most other clubs, cannot compete financially with these clubs. Unless we become a top 4 club and play regularly in the Champions League (unlikely to happen at this time) this is sadly the reality…..
After two seasons and with Palhinha leaving, it will stop those muppets from spelling his name incorrectly.
I echo what everyone has said however the elephant in the room is TK-he should have got more from Bayern instead of rolling over and having is belly tickled. And to think that TK is the director of football operations! I think the club really need to sort this role with a proper appointment long term.
I think it’s inevitable that Marco will be next to depart and who can blame him really.
Sorry to see him go. Why did TK not stick to his 60 Milion asking price even with a 10 percent reduction minimum 54 million another case of releasing a player to cheaply. Clubs may adore doing business with ztk as he always backs down.not good enough nough
I guess it was to be expected, but he will be sorely missed.
As has been said above why didn’t we hang out for the £56 million that was touted as the figure agreed last year, or was that a load of bullshit?
Like everyone else really sorry to see him go. However, if you worry about the money, it’s not so bad seem to recall we bought him for £20mill, had excellent service from him and supposedly sold him for £47.4 mill. Wouldn’t mind that kind of return on my money.
Liked Dave’s analysis ie. quite an expensive option, that said if he contributes each season to keeping you in the top flight cheap at half the price.
Just hope Marco and TK have an adequate replacement.! Willian going too, not a good day:( I fear there could be others!
Disaster or opportunity?
Wish them both well have enjoyed watching them.
