Fulham want to sign Luton Town centre back Teden Mengi as one of two new centre halves this summer, according to the Evening Standard.
The Whites are held a longstanding interest in the former Manchester United academy graduate and saw a bid to bring him to Craven Cottage rebuffed by Rob Edwards in January. The 22 year-old centre half impressed despite Luton’s relegation to the Championship last season, making 35 appearances in all competitions, scoring a single goal. Mengi made his England under-21 debut as a second half substitute in a 7-0 thrashing of Luxembourg at Bolton in March.
Fulham could face competition from Crystal Palace, who have watched Mengi extensively over the last ten months, as Marco Silva seeks to rebuild his defence following the departure of Tosin Adarabioyo to Chelsea on a free transfer.
Here we go again…of course nothing will transpire as usual….waiting for last minute bargains means missing Mengi and Nketiah…clubs with real ambition to move forward move quickly and maybe pay more but hit their targets.
Waiting until the last minute puts huge pressure on Silva.
As an addendum to the above surely the greatest loss we might face is not Palhinha but Silva himself who might grow tired of pulling rabbits from hats and instead go somewhere to fulfill his own ambition to challenge for something.
Totally agree with Douglas. Any last minute bargain gain is lost by signalling to all at the club we have no ambition or plan and starting preseason without our squad.
Pull your finger out TK we are all sick of your penny pinching nonsense, we need players in early so they can settle in quickly.
Mengi, Nketiah, Silas. Sign em now.
Not Sept 3 at midnight ffs or whenever the window ends this year after year.
Gtg. Keep all our players. Play the youths. Solid.
Douglas’s post sums up our past transfer record pretty succinctly. At clubs of Fulham’s level money is always going to be a problem. The Kahn’s have plenty of money one assumes, but FA rules prohibit just putting their hand in their pocket and splashing the cash. I have some sympathy, they can’t spend money they haven’t generated without breaking the rules and suffering the consequences. Presumably if the Palhinha deal gets done the log jam will be broken. It’s a pity these things don’t follow a sequence that is beneficial to Fulham, but that’s life. Pretty certain everyone is doing their best and don’t suppose they are planning failure.
