Marco Silva has reiterated that he wants to keep Brazilian winger Willian at Craven Cottage this summer.
The 35 year-old former Chelsea and Arsenal star is out of contract at the end of this season, but the Fulham boss repeated to the BBC following this afternoon’s goalless draw at Brentford that he wants to keep working with the veteran.
Silva said:
“First, it is not just Willian or Tosin, Bobby De Cordova-Reid, Kenny Tete and Marek Rodak – all three of them were on bench today – they are all out of contract. They are not just one, we will try to talk [to all of them]. But, yes, about Willian, I was clear the last two months, a month and a half, I was clear when you started to ask me about that, we are happy with him, we [will] try to renew the contract with him, let’s see what is going to happen.”
We need a centre back,a left back,a left winger and a striker !!!
The obvious question after this performance is WHY?
He looked like he wanted to be anywhere else than on that pitch today.
Not only giving the ball away constantly but his body language was truly awful.
I would rather he left rather than have another summer of negotiating and haggling right up until the last minute to try and hang on to him.
Ironically, for the first time in a couple of games, we started with him as a proper winger instead of Decordova Reid or Iwobi trying to pretend they can play wide left -and it was actually worse!
We need to bring in a left winger, somebody who can give us more than glimpses of his past glory.
Yet again, the advent of Traore made a huge difference; a real winger looking to attack the fullback and get a cross in. His chasing back to halt a Brentford break was also telling.
When is he going to get a chance to start?
I agree with Charles I think Willian is now past his best he couldn’t put a single pass together and we desperately need a good left winger to replace him, i also don’t understand why Traore never gets a start if he isn’t good enough why did we sign him, he was definitely better than Willian was and Muniz would have scored from his cross which Jiminez wasted, we need a good clear out this summer and bring in a few better quality players.
Still worth his weight in gold. Other players can learn off him so what if he has a few quite games it’s just a shame we can’t attract this type of player earlier in there career. Two or three season watching Willian is worth an entire career of some the players with had.
