Fulham full back Antonee Robinson insists that the Whites have enjoyed ‘a very good season’ – despite a disappointing end to the campaign.

Marco Silva’s side could finish as high as twelfth in the Premier League table if they win at Luton Town on the final day of the season, even if their feint hopes of qualifying for Europe evaporated after one win in their last eight fixtures.

Robinson highlighted that the progress that the club have made to secure safety in March for a second successive season stands in stark contrast to years of yo-yoing between the top two divisions in an interview with FFCTV this afternoon:

“It’s been a very good season. Obviously, the results of late have taken away from that – we haven’t got the results we wanted to end the season – so it’s really important to put into perspective on the whole how good it’s been. Early on in the season, we were fighting for a lot. We were in the Carabao Cup until the semi final and, after the international break in March, if a couple of things went our way we could have been pushing for a European place. Nevertheless, to have back-to-back strong Premier League seasons is very good for us.”

The American international, who also shared his excitement about representing his country in an expanded Copa America on home soil this summer, picked out the derby win over Spurs as his favourite memory from another excellent individual campaign.

“I think the one that stands out to my most was beating Tottenham 3-0. There’s been a lot. Having two 5-0 wins, beating Manchester United in the last minute and beating Arsenal at the Cottage [as well]. The Tottenham one felt like a really emphatic win against a big club, a really good team and I thought the performance was outstanding.”

He saluted Silva’s coaching staff for their part in his own development, admitting that it was difficult to settle in during the Covid pandemic after his £2m move from Wigan Athletic.

“The first year in the Premier League was obviously during COVID – it wasn’t quite a proper Premier League season. It took a lot of time for me to get used to being here, setting in, and then evolving as a player. I put that down a lot to the gaffer and the coaching staff. They’ve done a lot to help me, help boost my confidence and develop me as a player.”

Robinson reiterated that Fulham are determined to finish the campaign on a high at Kenilworth Road on Sunday afternoon.

“We really want to finish strong. We don’t want to let the season fizzle out into disappointment. We want to finish with a win, something for the fans and the fans who are travelling to the game to enjoy. We want to put on a good performance and finish as high up the table as we can to cement the fact that it’s been a good year.”
