Issa Diop was disappointed that Fulham couldn’t find a winner on derby day at Brentford this afternoon – but consoled himself with quiet contentment at keeping a clean sheet.

The French defender produced a dominant display at the heart of Marco Silva’s back four alongside Calvin Bassey and kept England international Ivan Toney quiet as the Brentford striker’s scoreless streak continued in Hounslow.

Diop told FFCTV after the final whistle:

“It could have been more, but in the Premier League it is always good to have a clean sheet and take a point away from home, so it’s a good result. It is good to have a clean sheet away from home, I’m happy with that and I hope we are going to do it next week as well.”

Speaking about his return to the side, Diop revealed he feels very comfortable alongside Bassey:

“It is always easy to play alongside good players. He’s a very good player – so he makes things easier for me. He’s a very good player and it is always a pleasure to play with him.”

The French centre back is relishing the prospect of taking on champions Manchester City at Craven Cottage next weekend and sees no reason why the Whites can’t finish the season with six points from their final two fixtures.

“We know what we are capable of. We know when we do the right thing, we are a good time. We just have to do it week after week. We always want to win. We want to win the next game against Manchester City and then Luton. We hope that we are going to win the last two games to finish well this season. It’s a big, big challenge to play against Manchester City. We know it – and we will do the maximum to beat them next week.”
