The Turkish press claim that Besiktas have agreed a three-year deal with Fulham full back Kenny Tete.

Sabah suggest that the club’s board have made early steps to strengthen their squad despite parting company with Fernando Santos. Tete is reportedly top of their list and the 28 year-old has reportedly agreed terms on a proposed deal, having been frustrated after losing his place at Craven Cottage to Timothy Castagne.

However, two facts undermine this reporting. The first is that the newspaper claims that Tete’s availability on a free transfer is a key reason why negotiations have begun early and that the Dutch international is affordable. However, Fulham hold an option to trigger an additional year on Tete’s contract this summer – which they would do, even if they were planning to see what interest there was in the former Lyon right back.

Secondly, Sabah describes the former Ajax defender as a centre back, which simply isn’t correct. Tete has also linked with a possible return to Amsterdam to play for his former club, but it is understood that the player himself is expecting to stay with the Whites for at least another season.
