Timothy Castagne has revealed that head coach Marco Silva proved a crucial element in his decision to join Fulham instead of Juventus last summer.

The Belgian international moved to Craven Cottage from relegated Leicester City during the summer transfer window in a deal worth around £11m and has quickly become Fulham’s first choice right back, usurping Dutch defender Kenny Tete with a series of consistent performances.

Castagne told Het Belang van Limburg:

“We often talked with Juventus, but it never became concrete. They also didn’t have enough money at that time. Plus, after speaking to the coach here and hearing how Fulham wanted to play, I liked it. The players are better in England.”

The right back also disclosed who have been some of his toughest opponents this season.

“I had the most work with Luis Diaz from Liverpool and Mitoma from Brighton. But it is tactically a little less strict here, which sometimes means there is more space. Italy is much more tactics based.”
