The statistical site WhoScored have a fascinating chat with Fulham playmaker Andreas Pereira this morning ahead of his return to Old Trafford on Saturday.
The attacking midfielder moved from Manchester United to Craven Cottage after the Whites were promoted from the Championship in Marco Silva’s first season. The Brazilian international says Silva’s ambition persuaded him to make a move he wasn’t initially convinced about.
“I think the most important thing for me especially is the way he thinks about football. We match in that way so for me that that was the most important thing.”
Pereira, who has won a single international captain, feels he has found a home at Craven Cottage having had several loan spells away from United despite impressing in first-team outings under Jose Mourinho.
“It’s good to settle. Like you said it’s my second season. I’m here to prove to people that I can do my best here in the Premier League. It’s going to be a harder year than last year and I’m just happy that I’m proving what I can do.”
The man is deluded, if he thinks he’s proving his worth. This season he has been a passenger and if we had a Carvalho, he would not be playing.
I agree with Martin. Yes he does the odd piece of nice work to knit our play together but realistically if you want to play week in week out as a playmaker then you have to make a contribution too. Goals and free kicks? We need the odd one to go in. You can’t just rely on being a playmaker. He needs to deliver a lot more for me. Personally I think it’s time Silva gives someone else a go. Iwobi, Cairney. I think both are better playmaker options and we have others that can take their current roles. He’s clearly of value to the team but for me he doesn’t do enough to justify his ever present status.
