At least two Premier League sides are planning to rival Bayern Munich by making a move for Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha in January, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Bayern’s £60m deal to sign the Portuguese international floundered on the final day of the summer transfer window because the Whites were unable to bring in a replacement for the 28 year-old before the German transfer deadline. The Bundesliga giants retain an interest in signing the former Sporting Libson midfielder but recent reports from Germany claim that Bayern are investigating other prospects.

Fulham have rubbished reports that they could sell Palhinha for a cheaper fee than the one agreed earlier this year and have confirmed that they are no clauses in the midfielder’s new contract, signed in September, that would facilitate a move to another club. The club feel they are in a stronger position to resist offers from elsewhere after Palhinha signed a deal that runs until 2028 whilst head coach Marco Silva also put pen to paper on a new three-year contract in October.
