In a revealing interview with The Athletic this morning, Calvin Bassey has revealed that he feels his transfer to Fulham this summer came at exactly the right time after being struggling to settle at Ajax.

The Nigerian international, poised to represent his country at the African Cup of Nations in the Ivory Coast next month, also revealed how he had almost given up on football before having a successful trial at Leicester City and how the game saved him from the grip of gangs in south London.

Speaking about how he has fitted in seamlessly to Marco Silva’s back four at Craven Cottage, Bassey said:

“I moved to Fulham at the right time. I can build under a manager (Marco Silva) who wants to play football.”
