Issa Diop has declared he ‘will be back stronger’ after limping out of Fulham’s 3-1 win over Sheffield United at Craven Cottage.
The French defender fell to the floor with what appeared to be a serious foot injury on Saturday, giving up possession, and lying motionless on the turf as the Blades went to equalise. Diop, who has started all eight of Fulham’s league games so far this season, took to Instagram to post a message of defiance having undergone a scan earlier this week.
The 26 year-old commented: ‘Congratulations mate for the victory, I will come back stronger. Thank You to all the fans for the support’. He replied to Nantes goalkeeper Albant Labont, who asked whether the injury was any better, saying: ‘Don’t worry, bro’.
Marco Silva told the press following Fulham’s win at the weekend that Diop had felt ‘a crack in his foot’ and that the injury ‘doesn’t look good’. With Tosin Adarabioyo expected to be out for a further five weeks with a groin injury, that leaves the Whites light on alternatives at centre back. Calvin Bassey impressed off the bench but the next cover would be seventeen year-old Luc de Fougerolles, who has yet to make his competitive senior debut despite impressing in pre-season.
