Alex Iwobi is having a medical at Fulham this morning ahead of his proposed permanent move from Everton, according to Sky Sports News.
Marco Silva signed the Nigerian international when he was in charge at Goodison Park in 2019 and is keen to be reunited with the versatile midfielder at Craven Cottage. Iwobi featured for Sean Dyche’s side in their opening day defeat by the Whites but was injured in the 4-0 hammering at Aston Villa and Everton are seeking to raise funds for incomings with deadline day sales.
Iwobi, who can play in central midfield as well on the wing or at wing back, was an ever-present for Everton last season and has made 140 appearances for the Toffees. The 27 year-old came through Arsenal’s academy and made 149 first-team appearances for the Gunners, winning the FA Cup in 2017.
He is NOT a proper replacement for Palhinha. Not even close if we want to survive. It will be disasterous if he is seen as a solution to our upcoming lack holding midfielders.
So we’ve basically lost our 2 best players in Mitro and Palhinia, lost a stack more and signed a handful. Well done TK. .
If Marco stabilises this sh@t show he will truly be a genius.
If he throws in the towel and leaves….I personally wouldn’t blame him, To think he turned down all that Saudi money for this. He built all that added value into our squad and this is how we repay him? Insane.
I suspect when VAR intervenes tomorrow to help City (if it’s needed) he’ll be on for his 4th booking of the season. Let them have it Marco! 🙂
Well said Dave I totally agree with you, once again we are scrambling around on the final day of the transfer window looking for players to make up our squad, I too can see Marco leaving and who could blame him having to work with Our so called recruitment team, i see we are looking at a 33year old i hope they have included a mobility scooter in the deal.
We have always been too good for the Championship but not good enough for the very top. Pahlinha’s transfer shows this. He was under contract for a further 4 seasons, but still we had to bow our heads inshame and let him go. We will never find a replacement so late in the transfer window. If we really showed any ambition, this season we would have paired Pahlinha with a proper midfielder instead of Reed, that for all his running, it is obvious to anyone that he us technically lacking in many aspects. What a disgrace, I hope now that the chairman won’t come pontificating on the matchday program on how much he loves the club. Jow could we ever progress, when we sell our best players after just a single season? Pathetic, i am livid with anger.
Absolutely correct Simon. All the BS from the Khans about developing the club. Utter drivel. We’ve taken a huge step backwards this window. And when I say huge I mean HUGE.
And we’re paying for the privilege for this incompetence, in our over inflated season ticket prices, poor Riverside Stand project management and an awful pink away kit.
I would separate the Iwobi and Palhinha deals.
Anyone who was at Everton would have seen that Iwobi was outstanding; a thorn in our flesh all afternoon and the second best player on the pitch after Leno. Great signing.
Palhinha is another matter. Clearly we don’t want to lose him, but have to assume that, like Mitro, he is forcing the issue. Can we get a quality replacement on the afternoon of Deadline Day? I share the scepticism.
Will it all unsettle Silva? It cannot help, but let’s wait and see.
Good, early transfer business, as Marco said all along, would have obviated all the angst that these late panics create.
