Marco Silva claimed that Brentford ‘won a penalty that only the referee saw’ during their comprehensive derby victory at Fulham this afternoon.

Referee Darren Bond showed Tim Ream a second yellow card after pointing to the spot following the American defender’s challenge on Yoane Wissa. Speaking to BBC Sport afterwards, Silva said:

“That moment decided the game, finished. Okay, we were losing but it was a tight first half. We didn’t see anyone on the front foot. Some moments for us, some moments for Brentford. We tried [to get] a reaction from the second half, it was clear. We hit the crossbar, a good moment from ourselves. Unfortunately the ball [did not go in] the net. We were preparing to react with Willian and Tom Cairney and then came that moment.

But they won a corner and from the second action they won a penalty that just the referee saw. Our players, they were really surprised with the decision from the referee. I have seen the moment ten times, I can not see anything. I think no-one can see. Just the referee saw, and probably the VAR they saw it as well. It is difficult to understand because in my opinion this was a clear error from the referee.”
