Former Fulham goalkeeper Sergio Rico is set to be discharged from hospital next week three months after he suffered life-threatening head injuries after colliding with a horse during a holiday pilgrimage, according to the Athletic.

The Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper has made steady progress from his injuries at the Virgen del Rocio Hospital in Seville. He is expected to return home next week once doctors have completed the final checks on his current condition and continue his recovery in his native Seville.

The Spanish international made 32 appearances on loan at Craven Cottage in the 2018/19 season and has been at Paris Saint-Germain since 2019. The 29 year-old’s first priority is to make a full recovery but his medical team believe he could resume his playing career should he continue to recover at this impressive rate.
