Raúl Jiménez has thanked Fulham for giving him another opportunity to prove himself in the Premier League after an underwhelming season at Wolves.
The Mexican international moved to Craven Cottage for £5.5m earlier this month after being frozen out by Julen Lopetugui at Molineux and told Claro Sports that he feels particularly valued in England having recovered from the horrific head injury that threatened his career.
“In England, they value what I have done. I understand there are different clubs and different criteria, but my strengths are perceived differently here and I thank the fans. I am not saying that every Mexican has to tell me that I’m the best in the world, but they should have more conviction and understanding about what they are criticising. I see social media and read what people put, but it doesn’t generate anger in me. I am very calm. There are those that like me and those that don’t – they are free to express themselves, although there is a right way to do it.”
The 32 year-old is looking forward to a fresh start with Fulham having made his debut in the final game of the Summer Series in America against Chelsea and could make his first start for the Whites against Hoffenheim in their final pre-season friendly this afternoon.
“I’ve done well [in England] in the past few years. Although last season was not good, I know what I have done well and I know that I can continue to do it. I thank Fulham because they are betting on me despite me not having a great season last year.”
he was one of the best until that terrible head injury, this is a chance to see him at his previous best
I hope he isn’t using us as a stepping stone like Willian
I still believe Raul as what it takes. I don’t think he had the service last season. I was very disappointed to see him leave Wolves. I wish him all the best for Fulham although I hope he doesn’t score against Wolves.
