Fulham are interested in signing Sevilla’s World Cup winner Gonzalo Montiel as Marco Silva continues his search for cover at right back, according to Sky Sports News.

The 26 year-old Argentinian international, who scored the winning spot-kick in the penalty shoot-out victory over France in the World Cup final last December, was an unused substitute as Sevilla started their La Liga season with a 2-1 defeat against Valencia on Friday evening. Montiel, who has three years to run on his current contract at Los Nervionenses, also scored the winning penalty in the Europa League final win over Roma last May.

Montiel, who has made 71 appearances and scored two goals during his time in Spain following seven trophy-laden seasons at River Plate, is understood to be interested in playing in the Premier League and could be a cheaper alternative to one of Silva’s top targets, Timothy Castagne. The Belgian international was on the bench as Leicester beat Huddersfield on Saturday, but the Foxes are holding out for almost £13m for the versatile full back.
