Fulham are considering a surprise swoop for Everton midfielder Alex Iwobi, according to the Daily Mail.

The Whites are looking to supplement their squad with Premier League experience in the final days of the summer transfer window. They failed in a protracted attempt to sign Demarai Gray from Everton over the summer and, with the Toffees needing to sell players in order to find their own acquisitions, the versatile former Arsenal man has emerged as a potential cut-price option.

The Nigerian international is thought to be surplus to requirements at Goodison Park after Sean Dyche signed Arnaut Danjuma and Jack Harrison and would offer the ability to cover a number of positions having operated as a wing-back, winger attacking midfielder and in a deep-lying engine room role in his time with the Toffees. The 27 year-old came through the ranks at Arsenal, making 149 appearances and scoring fourteen goals after breaking into the first-team in 2015.

He moved to Everton for £28m in 2019 and has scored nine goals in 140 appearances on Merseyside but has struggled to hold down a regular place at Goodison Park of late. Iwobi, who has won 63 senior caps for Nigeria and scored ten goals, injured his hamstring in Everton’s 4-0 hammering at Villa Park earlier this month and missed the defeat by Wolves last weekend. He has ten months left on his current contract – so could be a cut-price option for Fulham in the coming days.
