Fulham FC Women, bolstered by a whole host of new signings, start their new season this afternoon against Ashford United at Motspur Park.

If you’ve been inspired by the legendary Lionesses, either during last year’s European Championships or this summer’s superb run to today’s World Cup final, then get along to the Fulham training ground to give the Whites your support this afternoon. The club has a rich history of female football, from the FA Cup pedigree of the trailblazing Friends of Fulham side in the 1980s to becoming Britain’s first professional team at the turn of the millennium, and having been incorporated back into the Fulham academy a couple of years ago are bidding to move up the domestic pyramid. Steve Jaye’s side, who made history by playing their first game at Craven Cottage in two decades last year, finished third in the London and South East Regional Premier Division last season – and will be aiming for promotion this time around.

Skippered a lifelong supporter in Mary Southgate, Fulham now have a trickle of talent coming through the ranks with Jodie Taylor’s under-18 side winning silverware in their very first season last term. This afternoon’s encounter will be a real celebration of the women’s game – and tickets are priced at £5 for adults and £1 for concessions. If you can’t get along at such short notice, then special women’s season tickets are available at £40 for adults and £5 for juniors. The money raised from these sales goes back into furthering female football at Fulham: a very worthy cause.

Like we did last seaosn, we’ll proudly cover the Fulham FC Women’s campaign on these pages.
