Fulham’s new signing Timothy Castagne is happy to be back at Craven Cottage – twelve years after watching the Whites from the Hammersmith End as a teenager.

The Belgian international finally completed his protracted move from Leicester City, putting pen to paper on a four-year contract to become the Cottagers’ fourth summer signing. The deal wasn’t completed in time for full back to face Tottenham in the League Cup tonight – but the he is looking forward to watching his new team-mates in action.

He told FFCTV that he won’t be the first time he has cheered on Fulham at their historic home:

“I came here a few years ago. I came here – I think it was twelve years ago with my dad and a friend. I remember it was crazy how close you were to the pitch. That’s a memory I will always keep – it was a nice game! I will be happy to watch them [his new Fulham team-mates] and see what they can do against Spurs.”

Castagne said that his experience of playing the Whites with Leicester last season played a big part in his eagerness to sign for Fulham following the Foxes’ relegation.

“I like the manager’s ideas. I know when I played them last year they gave me a great impression: a great play[ing] style and tried to play football and I really liked that. They showed us how to play in those games, especially the one here, and I like how they play. As I said, it is a big part of the decision. I like to go forward: I think one of my abilities [is] to run a lot. I can go up and down and I think that’s what he likes about me.”

The defender’s versatility was a key reason why Marco Silva made him his top target earlier in the summer and he is looking forward to battling Kenny Tete and Antonee Robinson for a spot in the starting line-up.

“I can play a lot of positions – or at least, help, in a lot of positions. I’ve played centre back as well or even winger, so I think I understand the positions really well and that’s what helps me play [in] these different positions. Obviously, my best position is right back but if I can help in any way I can, I will do it. It’s always good if you have two players that are fighting for the same spot because it brings out the best in everyone. I don’t see Kenny as an enemy, I’ve come here and I want to try and help the team. Hopefully, I can bring the best of him.”
