The Telegraph’s chief football correspondent Jason Burt claims that Bayern Munich are prepared to offer £50m to sign Joao Palhinha in the closing days of the summer transfer window. That should be a fairly short conversation, seeing as Fulham turned down a similar offer from West Ham last month.
Reporting from Germany suggested that, whilst Thomas Tuchel was a fan of the former Sporting Lisbon midfielder, Bayern had been spooked by Fulham’s high valuation of the 28 year-old. With Palhinha on a four-year contract, the Bundesliga giants will have to spend big to land him in this transfer window. The Whites feel that the summer deals that saw Arsenal spend £105m on Declan Rice, whom the Portuguese international utterly dominated at the Emirates on Saturday, and Chelsea splash £115 on Moises Caicedo mean that they can demand a hefty fee for Palhinha.
The defensive midfielder, who scored in the penalty shoot-out win over Tottenham on Tuesday, left Sporting who had qualified for the Champions’ League for Craven Cottage to be reunited with his mentor Marco Silva. Fulham are ready to play hardball with Bayern, who have already signed Harry Kane for £86m this summer, and it would be a huge gamble to sanction sale of the Premier League’s most proficient tackler in the same window as Aleksandar Mitrovic – with little time to sign a replacement.
That’ll be easy to reject then.
Easy just tell them to do one, as mentioned on Talksport, Palhinha improves everyone in the team, look at Ream the other night against Spurs – outstanding performance. Yes the money would be good as it would have to be in excess of £80mil but with no time to find a replacement, this simply just cant happen.
One player I really would want to stay, he has been brilliant since joining, however, retaining a player who wants to move on always seems fraught with potential problems. We can all see the attraction of a team of the stature of a Bayern and the system is what it is. Going forward I wonder how teams like Fulham can seriously compete with the dice so loaded against them. Like Southampton and a few others in the past are Fulham just going to be a nursery for the development of talent for the big teams?
Can anybody supply a grain of comfort?
We simply cannot let him go whatever the price For me he is the main an in the team. Also far too late to get any type of decent replacement.. If he does go I can see a big relegation fight looming
What ever they pay would cost us more with know time to get replacement RELEGATION
Its all over the papers but does he really want to go and be a replacement for Trevor Challobah because he is not going having seen Kane forced to wear the lederhausin shit. Perhaps when West Ham sign a player they should parade them in pearly kings outfit make them look a prat.
As for our Palhinha tell them to get lost their offer is a joke .
He is far better than Rice so we would need well over £105m plus Kane. I would keep him even then COYW
