Willian is poised to extend his stay at Craven Cottage after Fulham’s second contract offer met with a favourable response, according to a report from the Athletic this evening.

The Brazilian winger, who sparkled after cancelling his Corinthians contract to return to London last September, made his displeasure known with the terms he was offered ahead of his short-term deal with the Whites ending at the end of the end of June. The 34 year-old, who scored five goals and contributed six assists in thirty appearances last year as Fulham finished tenth in the top flight last season, had been offered a salary close to £100,000-per-week after head coach Marco Silva made it clear that he wanted the veteran to be among his squad for next season.

It is as yet unknown whether Fulham have granted Willian’s request for a straightforward two-year deal rather than the one-year contract, with a mutual option for an extra twelve months. Fulham’s need to tie down Willian is apparent after significant interest in the former Chelsea and Arsenal winger emerged from other Premier League clubs, who his advisers had began talking to after the player turned down Fulham’s first offer.

The Whites are eager to retain the experienced wide men after Manor Solomon moved closer to a switch to Tottenham Hotspur and Dan James returned to Leeds United at the end of his loan spell.
