Fulham winger Willian feels Marco Silva is ‘one of the best coaches in the Premier League’ and has shared his delight at the news that the Portuguese boss will be staying in SW6.

Silva has rejected approaches from several Premier League clubs and two Saudi Pro League sides to remain at Craven Cottage after steering the Whites to tenth on their return to the flight. Willian, who reversed his decision to reject a new Fulham contract after Silva intervened, told the Evening Standard:

“It is good that he can stay with us. He is a top coach. For me, he is one of the best coaches in the Premier League.”

The Brazilian veteran also revealed he was never close to signing for Nottingham Forest despite fevered press speculation suggesting otherwise.

““Of course, they wanted me to go there but it was never close. It was a few weeks of having conversations with Fulham but they were always my first option. When we reached the agreement, it was easy to decide, to be here and play for this club. I enjoyed my last season and I hope to enjoy myself again this season.”

Willian is enjoying spending pre-season in the United States as the Whites warm up for the start of the domestic season in August.
